Description
Colchagua valley.
After a little more then an hour driving south Santiago, we take a side road leading into the hearth of Colchagua Valley of wine, known as Colchagua Valley, a fertile land, full with horses, sheep, some llamas, plenty of fruits and vegetables that grow in the area.
The climate is templated, but as we make it deep into spring, the orange california poppy begins to present itself at the sides of the road, the smell of fruits and local farming activities impregnates the air and refreshes the senses.
About one hour driving away, as we past towns as San Fernando and Nancagua, lead us into the heart of one of the most notorious wine production areas in the region fed by the generosity of the río Tingiririca, Apalta Valley, a region with an identity of their own where wine, food and farming blend to produce the most welcoming atmosphera where to receive our guests.
Cattle, horses and sheep, remind us along with birds that we are now in their territory now, a land of wealth but also raw nature, where we can experience life through our senses and spirits.
At Clos winery (formerly known as Lapostolle), we shall be received by a crew that will kindly show us the arquitechtonics of a lovevly boutique hotel whose sight extends all over the valley, owning it at a glance and then, deep we go into the ground wich a building technique that is innovative no matter from which angle you want to admire it.
As if a driller in circles had left a trace in the ground the winecellar grows underground protecting temperatures, textures and ultimately flavours that come from every wine barrel contained inside.
Later, winery Montes has a glamorous experience where we can see their wine production arranged as an amphitheater, where gregorian music is reproduce to the barrel so the sound vibrations may cast a subtle taste into the spritis.
Their restaurant, Fuegos de Apalta, offers an amazing way to connect with the terroir where such magnific blends are mainfested, every cut, culinary arrangement mixes love, risk and passion for cuisine in a way that only fire can arrange. We shall take time here to enjoy the local taste discoveries at the winery before our own nature tells us that is time to return to the city.
